Abstract

The Argus Commission selected as the topic of its discussion the
interface that exists between pharmaceutical education and practice.
This decision follows several years in which Argus examined
the interface between pharmaceutical education and medicine
(1989), pharmaceutical education and nursing (1990), pharmaceutical
education and the pharmaceutical industry (1992), and pharmaceutical
education and dentistry, optometry, and podiatric medicine
(1993). The examination of the interface between pharmaceutical
education and these various constituencies exemplifies the
Argus Commission’s belief that considerable progress is possible
within pharmaceutical education by collaborating with those educators
who teach, practice, research, and contribute to America’s
health care system on a daily basis.
The Commission’s decision to select the interface between
pharmaceutical education and practice is also consistent with the
theme for the 1994 AACP Annual Meeting, Education and Practice:
Collaborating for Success.
